Featured Artist – Natalie Louise
Self Portrait Artist Natalie first picked up a ‘proper’ camera at the grand old age of 13. She started photographing her friends with lots of black eyeliner looking ‘angsty’ while she tried to find her creative style. She continued to play with film cameras through her late teens, but wasn’t producing anything particularly mind-blowing.
She finally went digital in her 20’s and discovered Photoshop in 2005. This changed everything. A plethora of possibilities opened up and she soon realized that with a few hours and a little imagination she could create a fantasy world that she couldn’t create in-camera alone. She spent hours watching YouTube tutorials and practicing new techniques; from simple skin and beauty retouching through to complex compositing, she absorbed it all.
Not having a budget for models, she started taking self-portraits instead. Turning herself into everything from Norse Goddesses to Faeries trapped in jars. She got tonnes of questions from social media asking how she created these images and decided to start filming the process for her YouTube channel. She captures behind the scenes footage of the shot right through the editing process to the final image. She doesn’t see herself stopping creating self-portraits anytime soon, and hopes to one day develop a career in Photography and Retouching.
